The ACRON Service enables users to create crontab entries for Kerberos-authenticated cron jobs.
These (a)crontab entries are added to a table on one or several central cron servers. The registered command is then executed on a user-specified target machine, equipped with fresh Kerberos credentials of standard lifetime.
ACRON should be used in place of cron when the job you are running needs to write to AFS, ssh or scp against a target node, or perform other tasks that require a Kerberos ticket to execute. If you do not need a Kerberos ticket to run your job, a local cron job is sufficient and much more straightforward.
