Mobile Services Overview

The mobile services can be different depending on the area you are located:

Swisscom network (Switzerland and CERN underground facilities)

Voice services

  • You can receive calls from any number.
  • You can call CERN numbers in any format (+412276/+4175411, 02276/075411, 7xxxx/6xxxx/16xxxx).
  • You can call outside CERN in international format depending on your subscription type.
  • Emergency numbers (e.g. 112) will be directed to Switzerland. Please, remember that in case of emergency at CERN you must call 74444.

Data services

  • You can use data services in any available technology (EDGE/UMTS/LTE). CERN underground facilities are covered with Swisscom 2G, 3G and 4G signals.

Messaging

  • You can use your CERN mobile phone to send and receive short messages (SMS) in international format. Please, refer to the mobile tariffs web page for related costs.
  • PREMIUM SMS (incoming and outgoing) are not allowed.
  • SMS from CERN email accounts: You can send free of charge short messages to any Swiss mobile number (including CERN mobiles) via your CERN email account. You can find the instructions here.
  • Multimedia Messaging Service (MMS) messages are activated over all CERN subscriptions. Please, check this link for detailed information about pricing.

Other services

  • Voice Mailbox (Combox): you can find the instructions here.
  • Forwarding calls: Only call forwarding to the Voice Mailbox (Combox) or CERN mobile/landline numbers is allowed. You can find the instructions here.
  • Wi-Fi calling: This service is currently not available for CERN subscriptions.
  • VoLTE: This service is currently not available for CERN subscriptions.

Safety

  • Mobile phones at CERN are not considered as safety devices. Please, refer to the TETRA service for safety communications.

Orange network in CERN French Area (Ain, Savoie, Haute-Savoie)

Voice services

  • You can receive calls from any number. Incoming calls could be charged. Please, refer to the tariffs for further information.
  • You can call CERN numbers in international or short format (+412276/+4175411, 02276/075411, 7xxxx/6xxxx/16xxxx).
  • You can call outside CERN in international format depending on your subscription type.
  • Emergency numbers (e.g. 112) will be directed to France. Please, remember that in case of emergency at CERN you must call 74444.

Data services

  • You can use data services in any available technology (EDGE/UMTS/LTE) - FULL and PRIVATE subscription only. If you have a BASIC/BASIC+ subscription you must ask for a DATA option via EDH.
  • Data traffic will be charged. Please, check this link for detailed information about pricing.
  • You can control and limit the data consumption via Swisscom cockpit. Instructions can be found here.

  • You can use your CERN mobile phone to send and receive short messages (SMS) in international format. Please, refer to the mobile tariffs web page for related costs.
