The Filer service provides NFS storage where AFS and DFS do not apply. It is only targeting back-end storage for services. No personal directory is supported or planned.
The service consists of a set of virtualised NFS servers using Ceph RBD (block device) as storage back-end. The system relies on ZFS to snapshot, replicate and backup its data. Replication is based on snapshot and (if required) is done in a mirror server in Wigner. Data are backed-up (if required) onto tape in the CASTOR service.
