How to Register

Register a new phone number on Skype for Business/Lync system and use a headset as a main telephone device

  1. Go to Resources portal choose “Skype for Business service”
    1. Click on “Get a new phone number”
  2. Buy a headset in CERN Store 
  3. To place calls use Skype for Business application on Windows/Mac or Pidgin on Linux 

 

Register a new phone number on Skype for Business/Lync system and use an IP Phone as a main telephone device

Note: Alcatel IP Phones and phone analog devices are not compatible with Lync Phone system..

  1. Go to Resources portal choose “Skype for Business” service
    1. Click on “Get a new phone number”
  2. Buy an IP Phone in CERN Store 
  3. You will receive a notification once your number is activated. Use the PIN from the notification to authenticate on Phone system.
    1. Start using Lync IP phone

Lync IP phones supported at CERN:

  • HP 4120
  • Polycom CX 600
  • Polycom VVX 201
  • Polycom VVX 411

Migrating a number to a Skype for Business phone system

You can migrate a current phone number to Skype for Business system. A person can have only one personal Skype for Business phone number.

  1. On Resources portal, select "Skype for Business" service
  2. You will be presented with all phone numbers that are registered under your name in Phonebook and in phone database (Foundation)
    1. Click “Migrate” on a number to be activated as Skype for Business number

Note: Person can have only one personal Skype for Business phone number

If a phone number is shared with other people (several people registered in phonebook.cern.ch), there are two possible approaches:

  1. Each person can get a personal phone number from Resources portal.
  2. A phone number can be migrated as "Common Area", and the number will be still assigned to the same people in phonebook. Please contact Service Desk to migrate a shared number to "Common Area". More information about "Common Area" numbers can be found on related help pages.
