Computing Engineer (AI and HPC)

As a Computing Engineer in IT-GOV-INN, you will participate in an EC-funded research project called SPECTRUM. While working on this project, your responsibilities will include the following:

  • Perform use case and requirements analysis.
  • Write advanced technical reports and roadmap documents.
  • Provide expert advice on large-scale AI workflows and their use on HPC systems.
  • Contribute to the coordination and supervision of students and/or fellows in the project.
  • Interact with representative science use-cases to analyse requirements needed for large-scale distributed AI workflows on High Performance Computing systems.
  • Share knowledge and expertise at conferences and workshops.

We are looking for someone with the following profile, demonstrated experience and technical skills:

  • Master's degree or equivalent relevant experience in the field of Computer Science, Machine Learning, High Performance Computing or a related field.
  • Experience using large supercomputing centers in Europe.
  • Previous participation in and experience with writing technical reports for EC-funded research projects and leading technical tasks in research projects.
  • Experience operating and optimizing large-scale distributed AI training workflows.
  • Experience carrying out large-scale distributed hyperparameter optimization.
  • Experience using a variety of different hardware accelerators for AI workflows.
  • Ability to design, develop, and optimize deep learning algorithms making use of hardware acceleration platforms.
  • Knowledge of modern deep learning frameworks such as TensorFlow and PyTorch.
  • Knowledge of programming techniques and languages: Python programming is required.
  • Proficiency in using job scheduling systems such as SLURM.
  • Proficiency in using software tools such as git, Apptainer/Singularity and Docker.
  • Understanding of modern High Performance Computing systems and how to use them.

Additional experience/skills in the following areas would be an asset:

  • Some experience using Quantum Computers
  • Experience as Task Leader in EU research projects
