Deputy Group Leader for IT-CD, IT-CS and IT-PW

Role

As a Deputy Group Leader (DGL), you will work closely with the Group Leader (GL), supporting her/him in the management of the Group. You will engage with colleagues, supervisors and Section Leaders within the Group and be available for discussing ongoing work and informally sounding ideas, providing feedback and guidance and bringing matters of importance to the attention of the GL. In the absence of the GL, you will have delegated authority and represent the GL in her/his functions.

As a DGL, you will participate in discussions with Department Management and exchanges with other DGLs and GLs across the Department. It is also an opportunity for you to further develop your management, communication and coordination skills.  The DGL role increases your visibility within the Department.

Time: 10%-20%, on a 2-year appointment starting on 01 January 2024, renewable

Functions:

Support the Group Leader in managing the group activities, as described in the Group Leader Benchmark Job

We are looking for someone with the following profile, demonstrated experience and competencies:

  • You have been a staff member for at least 5 years
  • You have a broad understanding of ICT technologies and trends, of the services offered by the IT Department and the technical needs of CERN user communities
  • You have hands-on experience with technical service delivery
  • You have prior people management and staff supervisory experience
  • You are a problem-solver
  • You can lead with strength and credibility
  • You can build strong working relationships

Additional experience/skills in the following areas would be an asset:

  • Experience as a Section Leader
  • Completion of mandatory and recommended training for Section Leaders/supervisors of staff members (from the  IT Department Learning Paths, see section on Leadership Path)
  • Good understanding of the group’s mandate and related activities
