Team members of the CERN IT Architecture Review Board

Type of notice
Role

The current mandates of the Architecture Review Board (ARB) members are coming to an end, so we’re looking to renew the membership of the ARB with the goal to engage new faces and new ideas while keeping some continuity with the previous board.

The aim of the Data & Architecture Function and the ARB is to lead the department toward a standard and modern IT technical architecture, ensuring that the service changes we make, the projects we run and the technical choices we endorse are coherent and take us in the agreed technical and strategic direction. The team members of the ARB report to the Chief Architect for the time they dedicated to the role.

Time: 10% or 20%, on an 18-month appointment

Functions:

As a member of this team, you will:

  • help conduct reviews of specific products or solution architectures, projects and proposed changes to ensure compliance with the reference IT architecture and compatibility with the IT service portfolio;
  • help define, maintain and document our standard IT technical architecture together with our criteria for build vs buy; the cohesive portfolio of standards, tools, services, and building blocks for our users and IT itself;
  • contribute to a best-practices knowledge-base for IT solution architecture, which will act as a reference and practical guide for your IT colleagues on how we select or build solutions that are compatible, secure, efficient, performant, scalable, and maintainable;
  • help arrange strategic workshops to discuss cross-cutting architectural issues and review major service areas to be able to formulate recommendations to the department on the best strategic direction to take;

We are looking for someone with the following profile, demonstrated experience/skills:

  • a member of personnel with at least 2 or 3 years of membership
  • an experienced, trusted IT engineer with several years of experience in IT service design, development, and/or delivery - possessing either deep knowledge with proven excellence in one or more specializations, or through repeated demonstration of successful IT solution architectures;
  • a constructive, enthusiastic and inquisitive engineer who is interested in how services are put together, and unafraid to ask challenging questions about why things are the way they are, and to propose how they might be improved;
  • capable of being an honest broker, providing constructive feedback while working in the interest of the Organization. ARB members are expected to represent the department, based on their skills and experience, and not the specific interests of their group; and
  • willing and able to commit to this role for a duration of 18 months at a 10-20% workload, depending on your assigned role in the ARB team.

People are encouraged to discuss with their supervisor before expressing their interest.
