Latest Data Centre info and stats

The CERN Data Centres are the heart of CERN’s entire scientific, administrative, and computing infrastructure. All services, including email, scientific data management and videoconferencing use equipment based in the two data centres.

Prevessin Data Centre (France)

CERN’s new Computer Centre, a modern and energy-efficient structure that will meet the new computing needs of the community, will be located on the Prévessin site. It is scheduled to be operational in the second half of 2023. This new, energy-efficient facility will play a vital role in meeting the computing needs generated by the ambitious upgrade programme for the Large Hadron Collider (LHC). See more here.

Meyrin Data Centre (Switzerland)

The current data centre in Meyrin was built in 1972. Over 90% of the resources for computing in the Meyrin Data Centre are provided through a private cloud based on OpenStack, an open-source project to deliver a massively scalable cloud operating system.

Together, the two data centres form the heart of the Worldwide LHC Computing Grid (WLCG), the global computing network used to analyse and store data from the LHC experiments.
