The Storage and Data Management (IT-SD) group is responsible for the design, development, evolution, and operation of core storage and data management technologies and services for the Laboratory, the CERN user community, CERN experiments, and the Worldwide LHC Computing Grid.
IT-SD provides and operates:
* physics data recording and archival services for CERN experiments;
* storage services supporting physics data processing, analysis, and Tier-0 data workflows;
* data management and software distribution services for the Worldwide LHC Computing Grid;
* storage services and filesystems for CERN users and projects;
* storage infrastructure services for computing and cloud platforms, as well as the CERN data centres.

The section is responsible for the design, evolution and operation of data management, software distribution and file transfer services for the Experiments and Worldwide LHC Computing Grid.

Physics Data Services (IT-SD-PDS)
Section Leader: Luca Mascetti
The section is responsible for the design, evolution and operation of storage services for physics data for the Experiments, including the Tier-0 data processing and workflows.
Main responsibility: EOS development and operation of all Physics instances.
Tape and Backups (IT-SD-TAB)
Section Leader: Michael Davis
The section is responsible for the design, evolution and operation of the archival storage service for physics data for the Experiments and the Backup and Restore service, including management of tape storage infrastructure in CERN data centers.
Main responsibility: CERN Tape Archive (CTA), IBM Spectrum Protect, tape infrastructure management.
